Kanon2006 ep23 - 茜色の終曲～finale～

The real Makoto appears…

With Yuuichi lying on the snow, a bright light appears in front of him. Well, it appears to be just the headlights of a car. A girl steps out and approaches Yuuichi. With a blurry vision, Yuuichi calls out Makoto and fainted. Yuuichi awakes to find himself in an unfamilar room. He looks around and finds Ayu’s bag and the cute angel doll on a table. A mysterious lady was in the kitchen preparing warm milk for him and when she reveals herself, Yuuichi could not even really remember her. However, the girl recognises him and even knows his name, who he is living with him now and the fact that they were neighbours before. Caught by suprise, Yuuichi starts to remember that she is the real Sawatari Makoto.

Meanwhile, Kitagawa asked for Kaori’s help back at Nayuki’s house. Kaori approaches Nayuki’s room and through the door, Kaori explains that she understands what Nayuki is feeling right now, the pain she is having because she was the same because of Shiori. Kaori does not want Nayuki to shut herself out from the others while causing others pain. Most importantly, Kaori mentions that she should not worry Yuuich. With this, Kaori leaves Nayuki and tells Kitagawa that it will take some time for Nayuki to settle down. The telephone rings and Kaori answered. Yuuichi was on the other line and he informs where he is now. Back at Nayuki’s room, memories of her mother flashed through her and she remembered what her mother had said - a family need to support each other.

Back to Yuuichi and Makoto, Yuuichi explains he could not do anything to help the people around- Makoto, Mai, Shiori, Nayuki and most importantly, Ayu. Makoto tells Yuuichi that of the trees that endures teh harsh coldness of winter and gain their annual ring and become stronger and more sturdy. Humans are like the same because all the worrying and and hardships make them stronger. Lastly, Makoto reminds Yuuichi to keep the promises that he made and not to break them. Yuuichi sets out the next morning to the tree where Ayu and Yuuichi met 7 years ago. Under the tree, Yuuichi sits down and recalls the past of the times he had with Ayu. He recalled that Ayu mentioned she will love him forever if he loves her. Yuuichi says to himself that he loves her.

A familar voice rings behind him that she loved him too. Yuuichi stood up and asks why they cant be together. Time is running out for her was the reason Ayu gave and she is here to bid farewell to him. Ayu noticed that Yuuichi had found the doll and was very happy. Yuuichi wants to know what was Ayu’s 3rd wish. Her 3rd wish was to get Yuuichi to forget her as if she never had existed at all. With tears, Yuuichi held her tight in his arms and tells her that it is not possible to realize her final wish. Yuuichi wants Ayu to know that she was never alone. Ayu decided on her last wish and tells Yuuichi, a strong wind blew and her wish was unable to be heard.

With Ayu in his arms, Ayu asked if her body is still warm. After Yuuichi said it is, Ayu disappears. The story starts to ends slowly with Ayu talking in the background that she is seeing a dream that is like a repeatition of everyday. After experiencing the red, white, cold, warm and the sad moments, the day repeats itself back to the same dream. She knows it is the same while drifting through her endless dream and waiting for the dawn that would never come. She is waiting for someone, someone who will never appear. Waiting for the same dawn for many years in her dream. The scene flashes as we see Kaori looking outside the window and shifting towards Yuuichi sitting on a bench., depressed. Nayuki appears before him just like 7 years ago when Yuuichi was depressed over Ayu’s accident.

However, this time Yuuichi kneels down in front of Nayuki and apologises for being spoiled and relying on her all this while. Nayuki apologises to Yuuichi for saying the terrible things to him too and she considers that even. Nayuki promises to be stronger and hugs him to encourage him to be strong too and she wants Yuuichi to promise her on that and if he breaks the promise, she will not forgive him even if it is a strawberry sundae. The two promises each other with a “Fight-O”

The episode ends with Ayu continuing the monologue from where she stopped just now. The dreams are now ending and the day it ends, it will be like the snow being melted away by the spring sun, like how people’s faces fade away as they grow older , like how memories fade away into the eternity of time. Now, the dream is coming to an end after granting her last wish, Ayu’s last wish and her wish is…..

The end is here next week. Kanon’s final finale. Kanon, at the end of its dream…

I really wished the episode would last a bit longer. I really enjoyed this episode especially the part when the acoustic version of Last regrets were being played. My tears were nearly welling up my eyes. It was like I can feel that kind of loneliness as what Ayu did. Shiori gave the next episode’s preview and her words were a kind of comfort towards this episode .

Some scenes i could not recall when i was playing the game, was there a real Makoto? It seem like it never existed in the game.. or did she ? I guess I need to replay the game again
