Kanon 2006 ep24 -夢の果ての追復曲~kanon~ (fin)
Kanon, at the end of the dream… Seriously, I am going to miss Kanon…
The final episode of Kanon starts with the usual morning in Minase’s family, Yuuichi wakes up as usual, proceeds to Nayuki’s room and switches off all her alarm clocks and start to wake her up. Winter is almost over but Nayuki tells Yuuichi that she had a dream of the spring break she had. The scene shifts to Akiko preparing breakfast for them and of course, our dear pet - Piro. Everything seems fine and back to normal. Akiko has a new jam for the both of them, luckily, it was…edible. The both of them rushes to school as usual and Nayuki seems to be more energetic than ever. At school, Kaori reveals a little miracle to Yuuichi. Yuuichi rushes out of school to the backyard and met her again - Shiori Misaka. Shiori is happy that she is alive and tears start streaming down that she didnt want to die.
The scene shifts back to Yuuichi, Sayuri and Mai having lunch together at their usual hideout. Sayuri mentioned that it was a miracle that they recovered at a fast rate and the both of them was able to make it before graduation. However, they missed the entrance exams, hence, they had to retake the year again in order to enter college. Yuuichi was pretty suprised that Mai’s going to college. Mai took out a pair of glasses and a book and Yuuichi was pretty stunned when she told Yuuichi that she is going to study to be a vet. Yuuichi commented that although the image did seem to let Mai look smart but he believes that her grades werent that good. With that comment, Mai gave Yuuichi’s head a ‘chop’ from the book. Sayuri starts to ask if he had found the friend that he was looking for… Yuuichi replied that his friend Ayu had told him that they wont be able to meet again. Back home, Yuuichi met Akiko …
The both of them had a chat at a nearby cafe. Akiko mentioned that it was a miracle that she was able to recover at a fast rate that the doctors were suprised too. Akiko asked if Yuuichi knows where Ayu was as things does not seem to be the same as it was to be. Yuuichi told Akiko that he knew and remembered what happened 7 years ago, the accident, the girl who fell down from the tree and she is Ayu. Yuuichi believed she is now dead. Akiko stopped him and mentions that the girl is still alive. Yuuichi rushes to the hospital and proceeds to the room. In front of him was Ayu sleeping peacefully and on her hand was the little angel doll that Yuuichi gave her 7 years ago.
At the school graduation ceremony, Sayuri invited Yuuichi to the party but Yuuichi rejected as he need to take care of Ayu. In the ward, Ayu is sleeping peacefully and Yuuichi starts talking to her. A monologue begins with Ayu mentioning that she sees a dream where her beloved person is sitting by her side telling her the stories he had since young. As Ayu continues her monologue, we see everyone taking turns to take care of Ayu…
Ayu sees another dream, a dream where she is with her dearest, a dream where it repeats daily and this pieces of dreams are filling her heart. Shiori pops Yuuichi a question if he ever wondered that he is in someone’s dream where the someone is able to grant a wish. In the dream, the person could only cry but in the dream, the person has always been trying hard and never giving up until a little chance was given to her like a present… and that present was that person is able to grant any wish.
Shiori believes that the person could be wishing for her beloved to be always smiling and hence the person is able to create a miracle that the people around her beloved are fine and happy. Back at the hospital, Nayuki wonders where did Ayu’s red hairband went to . Yuuichi apologises to Nayuki for the trouble of coming down to take care of Ayu. Nayuki gave Yuuichi the usual encoragement - “Fight-O!” Nayuki believes miracles exist. Yuuichi starts to talk to Ayu again,
Mai appeared. She told Yuuichi that the Ayu is waiting for him and asks him to find her and to keep that promise and carry it out. Yuuichi starts searching while thinking of what Ayu had told him until he found the promise that he did not carry out…the hairband. Yuuichi starts crying and realizes that he had been living in an illusion and not the reality, in the reality, he did not give the present to Ayu. He realizes that 7 years ago, he has been escaping from the sad reality that Ayu fell off from a tree and landed up in a coma. He had set up himself in an illusion with the pleasant memories with Ayu… an illusion that does not exist. Now he realizes it, 7 years had passed…
Spring is here, a girl sits on a familar bench, she had a bandana on her head. A familar guy approaches her and apologises for being late. The guy asks whats with that bandana on her head and wonders if she had wanted a change of image. The girl wants the guy to promise not to laugh at her. The guy promised. The girl starts to take off her bandana because her hair was cut to a very short length by a barber and this girl is Tsukimiya Ayu.
Ayu had awaken from her coma and is now on a wheelchair, the time that being frozen has now melted away and is now moving again slowly while holding to a small fragment of miracle. Ayu asks if she is able to run again..Yuuichi believes she can do it.
It does not matter to Ayu now how long it will take because she has plenty of time now.
FIN
Kanon, at the end of a dream….
KyoAni’s Kanon ended with a sweet ending. Ayu and Yuuichi are finally together. The dream ended and they have plenty of time together for themselves. It is all about miracles, beliving in them..
I was hoping they could include the touching moment of Ayu waking up from her coma but too bad, they didnt. Still, the scenes where the whole lot took care of Ayu was really nice and touching enough. Overall, the anime series is splendid. There were moments of humor, moments of sadness and moments of agony. Kyoto Animation really did it well this time, thye were able to close all characters’ arcs with approiate ending. Makoto is still a fox living in the forest (take note of the final scene ). Nayuki has grown to be stronger, Mai and Sayuri have recovered , Shiori recovered etc.
A beautiful story has come to an end, Kanon, at the end of its dream…
Clannad will be what I am looking forward to next. :)

Kanon2006 was one of the greatest Animes in the uniburrss I’ve ever seen!!! I almost cried at this episode (as I did cry when Makoto & Yuuichi were playing w/ her bell and Makoto’s about to disaapear)…It soooo sad that Kanon’s over…It’s very touching..at least they all had a happy ending.I’m happy for Yuuichi and Ayu the most..I guess this anime teaches us not to give up hope, always believe in miracles, that’s why they are called miracles because they have a chance of happening..like Ayu waking up from her coma,Shiori healed from herserious illness, Mai and Sayuri quickly healing as well as Akiko. And let’s not forget our Nobel prize winner and Oscar grammy award actor,Yuuichi Aizawa who somehow contributed in making all these miracles a reality and not just a dream! Thankyou oOgA [was that right?] for giving us a detailed story of this episode and for the pics!

And so as it is said that all good things must come to an end. This is also true for Kanon. Kanon Is and always will be the best anime I have and will ever see. It is polished in both story and anime. Its so polished that I am in awe every time i watch it. I’m so sad to see it leave but so it must. The fact that this story is ending like it is is reason why it’s so good. It leaves with us wide eyed and quaking in our hearts.
Thankyou Kanon
