sola ep05 – Pouring Light (フリソソグヒカリ)
Matsuri in alternate costume !!
A flashback to the past, a boy returns home and witness the death of a girl who resembles Mayuko, the girl laid in a pool of blood, eyes open, motionless. The boy is Takeshi Tsujidou (apparently, it resembles him somehow) 17 years ago, now he has grown up, planning his next move as he stands outside Yorito’s house. In the supermart, Yorito and Matsuri went for some grocery shopping which includes a lot of tomato juice, which is Matsuri’s favourite). The 2 of them went and sat at a flight of stairs, in the front of them is the view of the sky. Matsuri wonders how the sky looked like in daytime. Yorito explains to her the best spots to view at different timings of the day. Back to Takeshi, he bought the usual onigiri for Mayuko who is hiding in a rubbish bin, the both of them went to the deserted church while she had her food,. Mayuko asks if he is going move out tomorrow and wants him to bring her as well. Takeshi refused.
The next day, it rained and Matsuri handed Yorito an umbrella to go out together. Yorito was suprised that she could go out since it’s daytime, Matsuri mentioned that’s ok as long there’s no sun. Matsuri led him to a nearby house which Yorito told her last night that it’s a perfect place to view sunrise. Since Yorito is a complete stranger to the residents of the house, Matsuri rang the doorbell so that he can introduce himself to them and after that, Matsuri ran away. Yorito ran as well but left his umbrella behind. The both of them shared an umbrella and strolled to the park.
Yorito teased Matsuri about the vending machine in the park that she kicked everytime, the both of them made their way there and Matsuri told him that she found him weird the first time they met, which Yorito mentioned he should be the one saying that. Matsuri decided to take a ride on a boat which are parked nearby. Matsuri hopped on and starts rowing, Yorito finds it embarassing as it’s guys who always do that. As Matsuri rowed, she asks Yorito to sit beside her and with the umbrella held up in the sky, Matsuri finds it to be splendid way to view the sky (her umbrella’s underneath is painted with the view of the sky). Yorito promises that he will, one day, let Matsuri be able to see a real sky.
In the ward, Koyori visits Aono again, the both of them had origami again, Aono promised to teach Koyori on a new origami but has a request. Back at Yorito’s house, Matsuri heard a sound in the house and starts to check around, only to find a falling Koyori from the stairs, the both of them were startled by each other’s appearances however, after Koyori left, Matsuri had another guest, someone who is unwelcomed..
Takeshi Tsujidou stood in the living room and without hesistation, he hurled his bolts of holy light towards Matsuri. She was able to dodge them but due to the close quarters, Matsuri was inflicted by some damage from the light. Takeshi corners her slowly by ripping the curtains in the house to allow sunlight to pour in while continuing to hurl his darts at her. Cornered to a door of a room , Matsuri was already very weak, Takeshi hurled one more bolt towards her at close range, Matsuri stretched out her hand and with her powers, she decayed the dart into rust. (or dust..whatever u call it)
Takeshi responded by throwing multiple bolts at her, Matsuri broke the door and fell on the floor, weak, Takeshi prepares his final blow with his sword. Looking up, it was Yorito’s room , the clouds painted on the ceiling gave her a last boost of strength and with that, she grabbed Takeshi’s wrist and decays it slowly while slowly losing control of herself. Takeshi screams in pain and somehow Matsuri was knocked to her senses, by the time Takeshi recovered, Matsuri ran out of the house by the window. Yorito returns to the house to find his house in a mess, he knew what had happened and rushes out. Outside, Matsuri can barely move and she leans to a tree, feeble and unable to move anymore. Takeshi caught up with her and asks why she did not finish him. Without delaying further, Takeshi swings his blade down but Yorito appeared in the nick of time and shielded Matsuri. The swing of Takeshi’s blade injured Yorito’s back…
Yorito refuses to go away and continues to protect Matsuri, he wants to keep his promise of showing the sky to her, somehow those words triggered Takeshi’s memories of his past where he protected Mayuko from certain harm and in the background, Mana was shouting, Takeshi runs away. Mana wondered what had happened but only to see Yorito together with Matsuri, Matsuri fainted. In the hospital, Koyori brought Aono the “request” – a sewing kit. Aono takes out the doll that her brother gave her and starts sewing on it as some of the doll was torn. Koyori mentioned about Matsuri whom she saw in Yorito’s house, upon hearing the name, Aono was shocked.
Firstly, Matsuri in her alternate costume and her alternate hairstyle was very nice, not to mention that soundtrack that accompanies the scene when they had boat rowing (i am a soundtracker lover btw). We see quite some character development between Matsuri and Yorito, the both of them was like a couple, the next character development is more on Takeshi, a bit of his past is slowly revealed and I wondered if the girl who died in the starting is Mayuko’s real form and Mayuko is like Matsuri. The fighting scene was intense and Takeshi portrayed himself as some kind of badass in this episode without giving any mercy to Matsuri, Matsuri’s grabbing of Takeshi’s arm was something that caught me unexpected when she starts to lose control of herself and decays his arm. I can believe Matsuri has been restraining herself from using her full powers against Takeshi when he attacked. Lastly, Aono’s reaction in the end made me wonder if she knew Matsuri’s appearance was what she had expected long time ago or it could be Aono is very protective of her brother…Nevertheless, this interwining relations, hopefully, they will be answered in the next episode
PS: Mayuko stuck in the rubbish bin really make go LOL. (a loli in a bin)
