  • utawabd_s.jpgAccording to Impress.co.jp and also GSmag Sept, Utwarerumono will get a release in Blu-ray format, the release date is still not confirmed but there is one thing that was mentioned though, the BD ver is not an upscaled release (eg: AIR BD ver) but it will use the original HD quality for it. All 26 episodes and DVD exclusives will be included in this BD release as well. I am happy by this news somehow as we can see animes going towards the direction of HD more clearly. While it is obvious that HD-DVD / BD players are still expensive, it is a good start imo. Hopefully, my fave animes like Sola, Lucky Star will get the HD treatment too.

Well, for those who are still new to what’s HD quality. Currently, the popular standard is 1080p (resolution: 1920×1080 progressive) and to really fully enjoy true HD, you need a HD video player and a monitor that can support the full HD resolution.

For now, true HD televisions that support 1080p is a bomb but cheaper alternatives is still there. Well, a LCD monitor (24″/27″/30″) will suffice as well as their native is 1920×1200. All you need to do is to set it as 1:1 scaling and viola! 1080p ready. :). Do take note, HD-ready televisions does not mean it can play 1080p at native resolution, always check the specs of your TV. Lastly, HD video players…hmm…it is a tough one cos it is not cheap in the first place, some people may consider buying a Playstation3 since it is able to play bluray movies but ya there are alternatives for sure, it is just a matter if u want spend that amount of bucks.

This is really awesome that they are finally starting to release true HD anime. It’s even better that Japan and the U.S. will be on the same region encoding, so I can just import directly. I’m still apprehensive about buying a HD player because I worry that I’ll buy the brand that ends up losing the format war. I guess I can wait a while longer.

I would totally love Sola in 1080p. I’ll be drooling at the screen as I watch it, lol.
