To be honest, I am a little disappointed that they reused so many scenes from the series. Pretty much all of the first half is nothing new, not only in terms of content but animation as well. Admittedly some of the things they’ve added was nice, like the insert song and I mean who doesn’t want to see Yoshida in the bath?
So after the terminology and ideas have been introduced, it got better. Since they did leave out a few characters, the story centered around Shana and Yuji much more which I think worked pretty well. Surprisingly the pacing turned out alright as well, most probably thanks to cutting a few corners and adapting a few bits. Although I thought Margery was quite the same Margery we saw in the movie, a little too caring. Shana is still Shana, so thats all good.

The new and adapted parts didn’t disappoint, explosions, fire balls, dolls blowing up and on top of that, Shana in action! Okay, I exaggerated a bit, but the animation really wasn’t bad at all. The little change at the end was a surprise when Alastor actually came out, while I thought it was quite cool, some thought it was rather inconsistent that it happened, since in the series this happens much later on. But I guess I am not too fussed about it.

So over all, it wasn’t bad. Perhaps a little more new animation would have made the first part a little more interesting to watch. Of course the story didn’t change from the original and neither was I expecting it to. The new bits were pretty well done and in many ways it explained a lot more about Friagne’s “toys”, also on how they made the story a lot more Shana x Yuji orientated. But other than that, I am just glad it’s more Shana! Season 2 is already here, because of this movie I am looking forward to it!
I am so tried that I can pass out! Starting to hear voices… “Urusai Urusai Urusai”
