Fuuko in all her 萌え-glory. Can you spot the differences between the two pictures above? Read on for the answer(s)…
Well it really wasn’t all about Fuuko having minor differences in her moé looks but more so about the CLANNAD WIDESCREEN TV releases. Sure, there have been other various anime that have had their WS releases, but nothing beats the CLANNAD WS! No stretching of characters such that everyone seems 20% shorter and 30% fatter!
Here’s what you get:
1) More WIDTH. Everyone likes width. The people that eat at MacDonalds everyday would enjoy this.
2) Bigger Perspective O _ O notice how the light shines through now, instead of being compressed.
3) Kyou looks so happy with the extra space which now allows her to duriburuu, 3-step lay & Slam-Dunk *Ka-pow*

Why is everybody making such a big fuss about CLANNAD. It’s not the first and not the last show that airs in P&S first and later in WS.

Lots of shows do this, even in the U.S.

Usually the WS version is played around the same time as the SD version. CLANNAD had a THREE WEEK gap between the standard and widescreen versions. That’s a long time. And there’s a large number of Kyo-Ani fans out there :P

Not true. Any TBS/BS-i produced show had a long break (to name a few that I remember): Rozen Maiden, xxxHolic, Kaibutsu Oujo, Assate no Houko. Then we also had shows which didnt have widescreen versions aired and were only available on DVD (Elfen Lied & Code Gayass come to mind and I think Aa Megami-sama season 1). ~I~ don’t remember anyone making any seperate posts about those - it was usually just a mention of a WS broadcast in a new P&S episode blog-post (if at all).
So your points are not valid except the last one - “KyoAni fans”. Shame that has to be the only reason for ~10 bloggers to post the same things for this single show.

@ALL: why the fuss? Probably because the WS is one of the best WS-compared-to-SD yet. 1 to oru
@Sabas: the 3 week delay was horrible, i was starting to wonder if a WS version of CLANNAD would only be available on DVD release =(
@kacpy: and that’s why i’m trying to get my hands on the Elfen DVDs. Apparently, if you import them thru shipping, they’ll get confiscated by MDA.

well gotta admit. i love the WS version.. although 4:3 is faster.. i guess most would just get the 4:3 to watch, and the 16:9 for collection. of course, get the dvd if you really want 16:9 since 16:9 is being screened with the so-called “quality off” on the chl. =X

the purpose for the 4:3 ver is let those who are still on 4:3 tvs have a chance to enjoy their animes. thats the only thing I can think of.
of course, the 16:9 ver is still available too
i wish there is a 1080p ver of clannad..lol Blu ray !!

I honestly didnt plan on getting the WS version, the 3 week difference is overkill for me. But after seeing the screencaps I will get them, only for archive though, as zenical mentioned.

Yup! Especially if you ever wanna rewatch CLANNAD, DVD WS is the way to go. Glad you enjoyed the screencaps =)
