Yummy yummy melon bread :)

[Summary]
Shion collapses because of all the strength she used to play shougi has left her weak. Ayumi calls out for help and Hisatani arrives to take Shion back to the hospital. Hani points out that his car is faster, so Hisatani brings Shion to Hani’s car to go to the hospital.

Ayumi is drown into her thoughts, she sees that Saori is standing at the door. Since the day Hani has praised Ayumi, Saori has always had a hate for her. No words are passed between them, but a rivalry is forming.

At Nagashino Hospital, Shion is taken to a hospital bed. Her mother and Hani are standing outside to make sure nothing worse happens. Her mother worries that is is suffering too much. Hani tells Shion’s mother that he had lost his father when he was young by a car hit and to ease the pain he played shougi as if it were his life. That his world before is connected to Shion’s.

Hani has went back to the shougi’s association and waiting for him is Saori. Saori asks Hani if she is better than Ayumi, but all Hani says a true shougi player only cares about winning.

Another shougi match begins. The players are Saori and Ayumi. In the beginning of the match, Saori mimics what Ayumi had done in her last battle with Shion. More moves get played as each moves aggravates the opponent. After a while, Saori becomes the victor. This is the first time she has not played like how she did play shougi. She is saisfied for winning.

Later at the Hagashino Hospital is Ayumi, but in his true form which is a guy. He pays off some of the bill for his mother. Shion comes out of her room to get nourishment, but really all she is buying is melon bread, different kinds too. Her mother comes to tell her that she shouldn’t be eating too much sweets and will instead cook up broccoli. As her mother is buying one melon bread, Shion looks aorund and sees Ayumi.

A suprising newspaper article is bothering Saori about a HOT love affair between her and Hani. Hani isn’t bother by it and Ayumi thinks that it suits Saori well.

Saori and Ayumi are getting study lessons form Hani by having a two against one on two boards. They both lose. Hani then tells them that “True shougi determines the strongest person of all.” In the sidelines is another man planning to do something that will cause trouble for everyone.
[Impression]
A happy episodes where nothing goes wrong except for Shion is still sick. No stalker today, trying not to get caught by the cops, huh? Another mysterious person is still unknown. Who is he? Of course, Saori has the hots for Hani even though she disagrees 100% about the newspaper article. MELON BREAD!!

Shion doesn’t need shogi right now…what she need is psychiatric examination and therapy. You can hardly say that her situation is healthy and if she can come to terms with her trauma while at the same time overcome her amnesia and selective aphonia then she can actually help put whatever psycho that hurt her in the 1st place behind bars and have some REAL closure and be happier/healthier in the long run.
Of course if Shion doesn’t play shogi we won’t have much of a series but the way things are portrayed EVERYONE is doing her a real disfavor by ignoring the obvious fact that she is ill and just leave her to dig herself further into a really unhealthy situation. Besides if she doesn’t play shogi this can still be a decent crime thriller.

@psgels: I totally forgot. just ignore that. srry i was thinking about that guy who murder Shion’s parents because they look exactly the same.
@Zzz: Shion needs shougi because after her parent’s death, that is the only thing that Shion had left to depend on. Shougi is making her become stronger and helping her overcome her trauma.
Everyone knows that Shion is ill, but they know that Shion doesn’t want them around all the time just to make sure she is okay. That would be bothersome.

You cannot treat a mental trauma by ignoring it or “let them work it out themselves by getting stronger”…it doesn’t work that way…mental and emotional injury is insidious because it affects the very way you reason and most of the time points you AWAY from the right way to deal with it.
I’m saying that Shion, if she is in the real world, has fallen into exactly that trap. And responsible adults should have taken an active role. Of course this is anime and Shion will eventually work her own way out because of protagonist’s fiat. But the message being given here is wrong and can leave really dangerous misconceptions. Realism and responsibility. Anime should not be free of those two necessities.

Working things out yourself will lead to things like drugs and stuff. It could even lead to suicide. Those are the wrong ways to deal. I know that, but lets say that Shion went crazy, didn’t care for shougi, and went mentally insane. All the adults can do is to make her become sane again. But the only way that works is if Shion wants to participate. It’s Shion’s choice to stay the way she is or wants to help herself.

Well that’s just a difference in opinion between us. I’m a little more interventionalistic in outlook.
