Attack of the radio repairmen!!!….erm, women….

It’s a sketchbook double special! Two events in one episode!

Looks like Hazuki’s radio is broken and she hasn’t the money to buy a new one nor send it for repairs. Natsumi suggests they look for someone they know to repair it. So they explore their options….

“How about Kamiya-sempai?”

“Guess not…”

“Kuga-sempai?”

“Uhhhh……”

“What about Himuro-sempai and Tanabe-sempai?”

“You can’t be serious…”

Seeing that they did not have many options, they decided to ask anyway…

“We’ll do it.”

“I have a bad feeling about this…”

Sunday sees Natsumi and the weird duo at Hazuki’s. Tanabe and Himuro proceed to examine and attempt to repair the radio. With their usual antics of course. (Prepare for picture storyboard…)

“Reporting in!!!”

Testing the radio

“It doesn’t work…” (note the power cord)

“I’ll plug it i……..”

“I fail at life…”

I wouldn’t want to be operated on by them…

“We now need to exorcise your radio”

*insert mumbo jumbo*

“It is done”

“It actually works!”

Where is Sora all this while? Apparently she decided to go on a little excursion of her own. While doing so, she bumps (literally) into a familiar person while trying to draw Mike…

Attempt to draw Mike Round 2

Nice recovery!

The girl recognises Sora and returns Sora her sketchbook which Sora dropped during the bump. But not before insisting on seeing what is inside, much to Sora’s embarressment. The girl proceeds to follow Sora around on her excursion. At the river, Sora attempts draw a few things such as a leaf floating down the river or a dragonfly on a person’s nose. But such things prove to be too transient to sketch. The girl, however, faces no such problem with her digital camera. Seeing Sora so downcast, she offers her camera to Sora who proceeds to sketch from it, with a different point of view.

“You dropped this”

“Thank yo….eh?”

“Lemme see!”

How to say no

Oh well. You tried your best Sora…

And Sora takes advantage of moment and sketches the napping girl…

“ZZZzzz……”

Beautiful isn’t it?

A parting gift

[Overall Impressions]

While the radio part was more for comedic relief, Sora’s segment does provide some food for thought. This episode explores the differences between a picture and a sketch. A camera can capture images of the moment instantly and without effort. A sketch, however, takes time. But with a sketch, a person can choose to draw what he/she wishes to see and bring out the inner essence or beauty of the subject. While the girl, as mentioned in episode 1, prefers to capture an instance of the moment with her camera, Sora prefers to sketch, drawing out what she sees in others. This tracks back to the series’ theme of different points of view.

However, I hope Sora realises that with a camera, she will be able to sketch those transient moments that she loves so much. Also, we still don’t know the name of that girl yet do we?

On a side note, I think I’ll be using smaller pictures next post as a test. Since I have a tendency to go picture crazy and make long posts…

And here’s your Kanji of the week…

Repair (naoshi) = Now Die?
