Ayakashi was one of those early debuts of the fall season. As you know, it is about parasitic life forces that give super powers to their beholder and in return get to have the host’s entire life. What drag me into this was the opening theme “Cloudier Sky” by Ayane. A sad feeling this song gives off yet with an upbeat rhythm to it. I even rip it off the episode.

It begins with childhood. Three childhood friends, one boy and two girls, watching the night sky. A shooting star falls and the girl with blue ribbons in her hair makes a wish, but the blue hair boy tells her that it won’t come true. But the other girl believes that her wish will come true. The thing that caught me off guard about this part was when the blue hair boy wish to be on the side of justice and defend the weak. Isn’t he kind of young to make those kinds of wishes about caring for others?

12 years later and the scene switches off to a construction site in where a man and a girl in a high school uniform stand with fire blazing around them. The girl has killed off the others that the man was working with or so to speak. She spares his life, but when he attacks her. SQUISH! He’s dead. There are a lot of blood splashes and gore in just the first episode. This is meant so that we can’t keep our eyes off.

Then we move on to Yuu Kusaka who uses his Ayakashi to impress the girls for a friend. It goes horrible wrong and slices the guy’s hand. Going to meet his friend he meets up with a group of bullies. The head leader is Sanada and he is interested in Yuu. As Nana (Yuu’s friend) and Yuu head home, Yuu encounters Sanada. Sanada takes out his cutting knife forcing Yuu to fight him.

But then a mysterious man comes and challenges Sanada to fight him for messing with his buddies. Using his Ayakashi, he cuts off his nose and gouges his eye. Lots of BLOOD! Sanada turns to Yuu and flicks his knife, but the attack gets cut off by the girl in the high school uniform from the beginning.

Why might you be turn off by this? Because of how similar it can be to other story plots. But I believe that this anime will sprout into it’s own uniqueness like how Night Wizard competed against the Fall 2007 animes. It stood out since it wasn’t a romantic genre like most of the Fall 2007 animes were. It was one of those protect the world types which caught some people’s attention even though the plot wasn’t intense taking you into loops and spirals until you finally somehow reach to a conclusion.
Ayakashi does have potential to become it’s own. Or it could just end up into a disastor with predictable plot lines. Ayakashi isn’t just about the blood and gore but maybe a story is hidden in the shadows waiting to pop out. I’ll definitely keep my eye on this one.

Well, the story seems okay in my opinion so far. Looks like another “disillusioned guy discovers true meaning of life” kind of show lol.
We’ll see how it goes…no whiners I hope… I can’t stand emo whining…
