Postman -loli + van staff of teleportation

    avatar-hiyuu

Phrase that caught my attention: “There are some things that can only be said after one’s death”. Go figure.

Although it has been out for some time, I only got the chance to catch it now. And I must say, the ending is one hell of a shocker. Don’t read this if you don’t want spoilers ^^.

avatar-hiyuu Before i started watching this, I kept thinking to myself – “hmm, deathletter, how creative is this show gonna get?” With all that moè from 2007, I’m looking forward to some GAR and DRAMA and hopefully some suspense. H2O has covered the DRAMA and fanservice sectors, so how is Shigofumi going to compliment the mix of 2008? Read on to find out!

    [Episode Summary]

nutcase-avatarShouta is a boy who dreams of building a rocket by himself. Ayase Asuna is his friend who enjoys watching him try. One day, Asuna’s father was found murdered. Fumika, our winged staff wielding postman/woman, approaches Shouta with a letter (Shigofumi) from Asuna’s father addressed to Asuna’s lover. Although initially denying it, Shouta decides to become Asuna’s lover in order to recieve the letter which would otherwise be returned.

    “Mail is serious business!”

nutcase-avatarTo be honest, this show really surprised me as it started out real slow and had a feel good feeling to it. I was thinking “ho-hum another sad life-story”. But boy was I wrong.

Fumika is pretty much your quiet and serious kinda girl. But then, if your job was to deliver letters for dead people to sceptical humans you’d be like her too I suppose. And it seems she has some mysterious power… Wait-a-minute-what was that bed doing there in that building?

avatar-hiyuuI want my mail delivered by a Post-loli. Handle with care please dear. I bet she’ll deliver anytime. I’d be happy to receive. Fumika is just adorable, I sense an aura of tsundere coming from here character. The way she keeps her words simple and her sentences short and sweet (could be sweeter) are subtle hints for tsundere character formation. My guess on her “special power” is that she can read into a scenario, what happened and why the deathletter was sent.

nutcase-avatarKanaka, on the other hand, is one hell of a talkative annoying bit.. staff. Halfway through the show I really just wanted to slap her it. Maybe her charm will grow on me later? Who knows…

avatar-hiyuuSomeone please modify the line, “Get back in the kitchen, woman!” to a phrase befitting of a talkative staff. The best phrase will be put as the title of the next post, if deemed fit. =))

Oh and check out Shouta’s handwriting – this is his take on the Japanese Hiragana, “su” – it’s got to be the funniest thing since 48 Reasons to watch Lucky Star.

For reference, the original character is written: 「す」

    yandere! :O

nutcase-avatarThe ending really caught me by surprise. While I wasn’t surprised to find out Asuna murdered her father, I WAS surprised by her actions on poor Shouta. It is this moment that has made Shigofumi into my “To Watch list”

    avatar-hiyuu
I thought it was gonna turn out like that. Everything pointed Asuna in the wrong direction – the way she looked at the knife, the way she answered the phone call about her father’s death. I think the studio realised the trouble they would have to go through (ala School Days) if they used red blood and a scary stab scene so they resorted to strategic scene cuts. Good thinking there!

nutcase-avatarAll I can say is, “Nice Boat!”

Anyway, going from the preview, looks like we will get to see the reason behind Asuna’s actions. (I smell domestic violence…)

avatar-hiyuuRight now my wildest guess is : Asuna got raped by her father in that building (nobody else is supposed to be there) how a bed got there I don’t know but that just seems logical. She’d kill him, take her younger sister, atone for her sins by working for her sister instead of herself and so on. What do YOU think? The next episode is titled “Rocket”, so i’m really puzzled here – Will the next episode be linked to the first, having Asuna & Shouta and more plot, or will it be a fresh start of totally new characters, and then Fumika appearing to deliver mail?
