My initial thoughts before SOY were as such – “I was in NP, how come I’ve never heard of the “Tsubasa Club” and such?”, “A Cosplay event in the mid-western region of Singapore on campus grounds, just how many people will turn up?”.
To my surprise, the event was relatively well organized, and a decent number of cosplayers and photographers showed up. Not as many gothic-lolitas this time, shall not go into the possible reasons for such.
Anyway, I woke up an hour plus past noon since i slept really late (thanks to iPod Classics having cover art and all that, i was trying to organize mine) and managed to reach the grounds half an hour before the competition results were announced.
Enough chatter, here are the few photos that i took (I was rather picky this time round, i only took photos of what i liked):
Top Three Favourites this time round:
Nel-Tu/Kon (Bleach)! One phrase: “Omochikairi!”
The very pretty girl in orange. Kureha! Too bad she didn’t have a longbow with her. Compare this with the figurine, here’s a link to Windbell’s review.
FLCL! How often do you see someone cosplay that! Next time i want to see the full blue robot / red robot suit with guitars included!

All in all, I’d say there’s a decent growth in quality and social acceptance of local cosplay. The community seems to be bonding well, supporting each other through contacts and such, and I hope that in a year’s time there’ll be more local cosplayers who have the passion to get into costume AND character. It’s been a while since Singapore has been put on the inexistant list of “Countries that like Manga/Anime/Cosplay”, I look forward to the emergence of “local celebrities” in this area ;)
Now GO prepare for Cosfest! Mata Joudo~!
