Well here it comes everyone what we have all been waiting for or not..
According to ANN by way of Variety it seems that Warner Brothers and Leonardo DiCaprio are producing a live-action adaptation of the Anime and Manga classic Akira.
The article says that the plan is to produce it as 2 movies “Each film will cover three volumes of the renowned science-fiction manga”. Seems the plan is to have the first movie out in Theatres for us by the Summer of 09.
No announcement of who will be starring in this new adaptation have been made yet. Also according to the article it turns out that Warner had the rights at some point but let them lapse and “had to re-acquire them from Kodansha after a round of pitched bidding that reached seven figures.”
Now believe me I will be the first to say I am very skeptical but the fact that why were actually will to pay a decent amount of money for this coupled with the fact that DiCaprio is a awesome actor (If you don’t believe me go watch The Departed) this actually may have a chance of becoming something very badass. And here is hoping I am right.
(Updated) Well as it turns out AICN is now reporting that DiCaprio will be staring as Kaneda on top of being a producer. They are also saying that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing Tetsuo in the movie. These are two really good actors so I think that just makes me a bit more confident that this won’t suck so here is hoping.

Only two reason i will never watch this movie:
1) Anime was so to great to ruin with live action
2) Leonardo DiCaprio can’t act to save his life. Will ruin this movie.
