The final episode review which brings us to the end of this series.

    [Summary]

    block.jpg

Following where we left off in episode 11, Hirose interrupts the old man’s happy shooting session with a war cry befitting of a 5 year old kid. Reinforcements arrive in the form of Hirose’s uncle and Hotaru, who proceeds to tell the old man she has reported to the police and that he is super pwned.

    pwned

With the hue and cry over, we find out that Hirose’s temperament has degenerated to the equivalent of a 5 year old kid and now recognises Hayami as his “mother”.

    mommy.jpg
    “Mommy!”

Hayami, in her noble love for Hirose, carries on the farce and goes to live with Hirose in the city to take care of him.

They live happily for awhile until finally, at the same railway crossing, Hayami confronts Hirose and forces him to face up to reality. Only to be interrupted by a boy who chases after his ball to the tracks despite the warning lights.

    face-reality.jpg
    “Wake up boy!”

Hayami chases after the boy, and at this point, Hirose remembers that the same thing happened with his mother. Thus we find out that Hirose’s mother did not commit suicide but went to save another kid. With this realisation (or just plain remembering), Hirose is able to accept his mother’s death and miraculously opens his eyes.

To see Hayami disappear (i.e die) in front of him, just like his mother.

Fast forward a few years (LOL TIME SKIP)

    grown-up.jpg

Everyone has grown up and Hotaru is now the village head. Yui is as ornery as usual and Hirose is getting along with life.

    hirose.jpg
    “I’m so drop dead handsome…”

However, chibi Otoha barges in along with Botan, says some spiritual nonsense, and Hayami magically reappears in front of Hirose (refer to first picture) Cue green scenery.

    Lol chibi Otoha

    [Overall Impressions]

    wtf-face.jpg
    wtf was with the ending?

    Wut?

    WTF WAS WITH THAT ENDING?

I endured 15 minutes of squeaky-voiced Hirose for this?

    *ahem*

On a more neutral note, while ending was disapppointing the story was quite okay I guess.

How they kept the truth of Hirose’s mother’s death all the way till the end and how Hayami went the way of Hirose’s mother, while cliched perhaps, was a nice touch. Personally, I felt the closure of the series was quite nicely done, with the diary and the quote previously mentioned by choco. IF ONLY they didn’t screw it up by suddenly doing a magical Otoha.

I would prefer they have left the story at “Hayami’s dead let’s move on” rather than pull some magical mumbo jumbo shit with Otoha and bring her back from the dead.mourning.jpg

And I believe she is (or was at any rate) dead because it looked like Hotaru was in mourning and I’m sure it wasn’t for her grandfather since he’s probably alive rotting in jail.

While the series started out relatively promising, I feel the ending and the storyline was pretty mediocre in the end.
My opinion: If you got the time to watch this, go watch True Tears.

    Future trap?

One saving grace of the series is probably Hamaji, the biggest trap I’ve seen in awhile. Over the series, seeing him torture Hirose with his antics cracked me up. This episode featured his last act, getting married with his best friend and having a child, while still wearing his maid costume lol.

And the eyecatch was interesting as usual.

Lol at Goons A and B

    so-wrong.jpg
This picture looks so wrong on so many levels

And this concludes H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~. Thank god this series is over. I think I would have died if it was 24 episodes…

While the ending seems like a WTF? moment, it can be saved muy some pointers.

While the scene of the train was a “Oh, Hayami got runned”, the fact that Otoha get her back growned up (while she stayed in her 15-16 year’s old self) changes things. Two points that can confirm this.

1.- Hayami got away from Takuma to let him stand on his own feet, without using her as a crutch for life.
2.- Returning to the village after years of suffering wasn’t an option, even if Hotaru and the gang were changing it, at least not in a short period.

very strange ending. i’ve never imagined that it will be happen like that.

A little wtf, a little OMG she died, a little sadness and at the end of the ep a lot of question marks with an unknown happiness.

      ________

      9.5/10 i think. ( for all 12 episodes )
