25th May Sunday was the Singapore Streetfest 2008 D’J Party held at Suntec City Tropics Atrium featuring J’Rock performances and a Cosplay Parade!
As Anime Banzai!’s self appointed Singapore side events reporter, I bring to you the day’s events with pictures! Armed with my still spanking new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS3, our two man team scored 353 pictures totaling 860Mb. Not bad for a day’s work I think.
I’ll be splitting the events coverage into 3 segments.
- The Goings-On
- The Competition
- The Cosplay
Stay tuned to catch all of them!

Firstly, locating the place wasn’t that hard since you could hear music blaring from a distance away anyway. Naturally, they came from the various bands playing on stage who played various J’rock songs as well as a few familiar songs from anime like Naruto, Bleach as well as the all popular “God Knows” of Suzumiya Haruhi fame. I’m no expert in J’rock seeing as all my jap songs are from anime but the bands played well and I even forgot to take pictures while listening hence the severe lack of shots.

I have to admire the stamina of the bands since they had to sing for 20 minute segments or so. Good Job guys.

There were your booths selling anime merchandise as usual. Nothing really caught my eye though.

Surprisingly, there was a booth showcasing the MMORPG Audition which is essentially Dance Dance Revolution except that instead of dancing, you destroy your keyboard instead by hammering at your arrow keys. It seems to be quite a popular game considering that they have a PSP version out.

Quite a crowd was out on that day. Some people mentioned that it was nice that they held it in Suntec Atrium since it was air-conditioned. However, being on-site revealed that it wasn’t too much of a big deal. The Atrium proved to be a little too small and alot of shoppers got stuck when they suddenly found themselves surrounded by photographers trying to take pictures. Lesson learnt, never stand between a photographer and a cosplayer. Also, the air-conditioning wasn’t exactly too good either though I put that to the fact that there was alot of traffic through the main door so all the cold air leaked out.

One of the interesting things going for the day was a “Free Hugs Campaign” organised by the people from SGcafe. As you can see from the pictures, they pretty much held up the signs and went around dishing out free hugs. I have no idea how successful it was, but they seemed to be having a great time hugging each other so i guess that was good enough.

This concludes the first segment of my coverage for Singapore Streefest 2008 D’J Party. Stay tuned for the rest!
