As long as it is about disappearance I'm fine. Having given up on waiting I read the novels and the fourth is my favorite (possibly by far)
in terms of the new character art I dont really have any feelings either way... albeit a little strange that they felt the need to change it... it'll especially be weird when people watch this later on video streams or something and when they move on to the second season they go "wtf? its so different"
hmm unless... (haruhi suddenly having long hair could be done though... with the plot of the book)

@ quigonkenny: Yea, they have fooled me..again. It's the most popular novel of the series? Being the best among the best must mean something. This is gonna be great!

I have to give props to KyoAni for doing a wonderful job too. I don't think there are any other animation companies out there who can do it as good as KyoAni, or even half as good. Nope, not gonna read the novels, unless KyoAni won't animate the novels. I will only read the novels that KyoAni won't be animating (maybe). I can't enjoy a story without graphics and voices as much as I do with stories that have them, even for a Haruhi novel. But who knows? And yes..I fail as a Haruhi fan..

I will do that. There's no way I will spoil myself if it involves Haruhi.

This all goes back to the "2nd season cancelled" announcement back on December 18th. All it means, as suggested above, is that the name of the season will be "'Disappearance' (or another title) of Haruhi Suzumiya", and will not be based on the "Melancholy" title. It's a marketing ploy, which has succeeded wildly in making people talk about it. Anyone who has read the novels can assure you that the pictures we're seeing in this latest Newtype leak are from the 4th novel, Disappearance. No question there. KyoAni isn't so stupid as to change the storyline around when they're adapting arguably the most popular novel of the series.

That said, Setsukyie, you *should* read the novels. They are even better than the series, as is often the case, although not so much as with most series, as KyoAni so far has done an incredible job adapting the series, making full use of the visual medium and actually improving in some places. If you're afraid of reading the novels and being spoiled for potentially upcoming Haruhi series, there are a number of sites around that can direct you to what was adapted for the first series so that you can read that and get a feel for the novel series while keeping season 2 (and beyond, hopefully) a surprise. Although, as I said, KyoAni has done an unbelievable job so far, so you really won't miss much by reading the novels first. No original source betrayal or wasteful fillers here.

And yeah, don't worry, the hair thing for "Disappearance" is no spoiler without the context. Just avoid anything that would mention even the basic premise of the volume (Wiki entry, novel teaser, etc.) until you actually read/watch the story.

@ Patz: Exactly what I was thinking. They could've just said that they're doing The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi. They shouldn't have mention about the 'cancelled 2nd season' thing. I thought that they were going to re-animate the whole anime all over again. Also, they didn't need to announce it, we already knew about what they will be animating. Just give us the airing date...

It seems to me that either the way things were phrased in the article were weird or the translation phrased it weird cause it seems to be confusing many people. But it looks more like they are basically confirming that it is disappearance in a round about way. And one other thing the Long Hair Rules. ^_^

@ Kinaka: I see. That's okay. Thank goodness that it's just something small. Even though I know that Haruhi has long hair in the disappearance, I won't understand a thing unless I read the novel. So, that doesn't mean anything. Also, I'm more interested now and I'm really looking forward to Haruhi 2.

@ Kaoshin Sama: They can handle it, but I don't think it will be easy, even for KyoAni. The fans (me) are pressuring them to give their all for Haruhi 2. Non-fans won't do that but fans will. They are expecting the next Haruhi to be real good. I'm sure that KyoAni won't disappoint us.

@ Mei: Maybe you're confused about Tomoyo After and ~After Story~, it's different. ~After Story~ focuses on Nagisa while the other one is focused on Tomoyo. Maybe you're right about nothing else to animate from Yuutsu, but they already announced that in December last year.

@ Kinaka: Yea, the post title is confusing and can be misleading. Haruhi has long hair in the Disappearance? Umm..is that a spoiler? Details, that's what I want from KyoAni. Not something like this.

@ D: Season 2 will come, that's for sure. I don't want to read the novels, I want to wait for the anime. I'm not the novel type person, I won't understand much by reading them. ^^

Also, I think I made a mistake in the post. Maybe the news is only about KyoAni animating 'The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi'. They have been doing it since then but they only announced it now. Maybe that's what they are trying to say. LOL...

Hello. I am a Japanese animated cartoon fan.

Apparently, you seem to be misunderstanding something.

"New Animation" = "2nd season"

This is certain.
In "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya", Haruhi of this long hair appears.

Let's wait for broadcasting new animation in detail.

It is the above.
I am sorry.

P.S.
My English is unskilled.

Tomoyo After will come with the last dvd as an OVA, so it's possible that the next KyoAni thing to air is Dissapearance. Maybe what they meant by not continuing with Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu is that they're doing the other novels, since there's nothing else to animate from Yuutsu. I really hope Editor in Chief gets animated...

To much for Kyoani?! It's pretty much their element being a Moe driven wacky antics type series and all. They can easily handle this much I think.

Honestly all this demand for something so simple at heart confuses me. It's not really so much a case of doing it right so much as to just do it and make it fun to watch.
