    • Banzai Beat forums going away

I want to thank everyone for making the forums fun. But due to spammers I just don't want to deal with it. They make hundreds of accounts and spam the living hell out of the forums.

so on that note I'm taking them offline due to very little use and I'm not watching my bandwidth bill be sucked up my spammers.

Thanks again and look forward to a new episode in the coming days.

The work...It is piling up!!! Why can't reality and anime co-exist in peace?!??!?!!

  • This ain’t just your usual fanservice show folks.

Read on to find out why!

If you haven’t guessed already, she’s Kan’u Unchou…’s daughter if he had one =D

Okay, in a nutshell, Koihime Musou is essentially Romance of the 3 Kingdoms adapted (for the upteenth time), gender-swapped and moe-fied. Not to mention this is also based on the eroge of the same name.

Just from what is above, the word “Fanservice” pops into mind.

Not that there isn’t any of course but if Episode 1 is anything to go by, Koihime Musou isn’t going to be something that’s just plain mind numbing fanservice.

    .

    [Very Short Summary]

    Again, Kan’u Unchou

    A rather chibi Chouhi

Episode 1 mainly chronicles the meeting of 2 of the main characters, Kan’u Unchou and Chouhi ( Guan Yu and Zhang Fei for those who read the literature),  and the swearing of their brother… I mean sisterhood.

I’m all for gender-swapping and Kyonko but this show is making my head spin with the clash against my historical knowledge. O_o

    .

    [Thoughts]

The show is surprisingly entertaining due to the cuteness factor they put in by using chibi-fied versions of the characters every now and then. It certainly livens up the mood, especially for people (like me) who love this style.

Of course, this being a Romance of the 3 Kingdoms adaptation means that combat scenes are a main stay of the show. While Episode 1 doesn’t have anything you would call spectacular, we do get a glimpse of what they can offer us.

Limit-break in action. Do not adjust your screens.

The above combat scene between Kan’u and Chouhi which lasted a good 1 min 15 secs or so was quite fluid and well executed. If they are going to give us more of this down the road I’m sure this show will be quite worth the watch.

    [Fanservice]

Never underestimate the power of running chickens girls.

And let us not forget the fanservice! The fanservice in the show remains few and mostly subtle. Which is exactly the way it should be. We don’t need no ample pantsu flashing (and bukkake scene O_O) like in Rosario + Vampire. Subtle and in moderation gets the job done very well indeed.

Falling in pit traps is also bad for your self-esteem girls. Among other things…

Of course, who can’t resist the usual bath scene?

    Ji~~~~~~

    Docking successful!

I certainly hope the show doesn’t degenerate into the clothes stripping carnival that is Ikkitousen since we are talking eroge plus fighting here (I know the manga’s like that to begin with but I still don’t like it). It’s supposedly a action love comedy thought with an all female cast I wonder where the love’s from. I smell Yuri since the ED song does give a little hint of such a thing. =D

All in all, a very interesting first episode. Will be checking it out further.

    [More Thoughts]

    You saw it didn’t you……

I’ve always wondered that with shows like this that take one of China’s greatest pieces of literature and change it into something like this, or an eroge even, do the Chinese even know?

    I guess those who would be scandalised by this probably don’t watch anime. ^^;

While I’ve personally never read the literature, I have had various forms of exposure to it be it the dramas of old or articles here and there. My first exposure to an anime adaptation of the literature would be Ikkitousen and I would say it has pretty much poisoned my view on anything else that claims to be such. Which is why when I heard of Koihime Musou, I was pretty much apprehensive.

Well, the show has done well so far in my books. I’m sure there’ll be more fanservice down the road but as long as there’s some real action (and not lame one hit finishers like Rosario) I guess it is not too big an issue. Who doesn’t like good fanservice anyway?

It’s the fang! And yes, that hair clip copies her expressions all the time. Amazing no?
