Finally. Took them long enough as it is.

24 episodes of challenges, superhuman stunts and the crazy antics of a group of obscenely rich students later, Special A finally draws to a close. And with an ending about as dramatic as Haruhi’s leap from the sky in Ouran.

I know I previously dissed the show. However, 6 episodes worth of mindless “showdowns” between Hikari and Takishima Kei were just making the show a pain to watch.

Of course, the real stuff begins somewhat after episode 8 or so, first with Yahiro’s story with Akira, followed by Ryu, Megumi and Jun and finally to the main protagonists Hikari and Kei.

For me, the main joy of watching the series was watching the drama unfold as the stories behind the S.A students unfold, all the while laughing at their crazy antics in the process. This is not unlike Ouran in which we watched Haruhi deal with her overly rich Host Club companions and their respective mannerisms (typically Tamaki senpai).

I guess one point of (good) frustration was seeing Kei having to deal with Hikari’s dumber-than-a-stone response to his obvious interest in her. Even though Hikari can pick up the love vibes from everyone else.

It’s amusing to see Hikari push all of Kei’s right buttons to the climax then shoot him down at the very last moment.

I guess my favourite character would be Megumi. She’s cute, she speaks with her sketchpad and her nuclear song attack cracks me up every time I see it. Of course, her brother Jun is no slouch either with his split personality which when triggered renders all girls in his vincinity helplessly in love with him (I would like an ability like that >_>).

Overall, an interesting series with some over-the-top antics and good drama. Don’t expect a superb plot though it’s good enough to keep you interested.
